Leaking propane is a serious problem. But there are many simple ways to check for this problem. Below you will find a list of symptoms that may indicate a problem.
- Your pilot light repeatedly needs relighting
- You often smell an unidentifiable odor, much like that of gas
- You have experienced an amount of flooding that could have affected your appliances
At the Fair Company, your safety is very important to us. We have compiled a list of ways you can avoid any major problems.
- Check around the base of floor appliances. Propane tends to collect here and will be easier to identify based on its smell.
- Always be on the lookout for suspicious smells
- Sometimes, propane may lose its odor. This odor fade may occur when there is rust present in the tank. If there is a lack of odor, please contact us as soon as possible.
- If you think you may have a leak, do not try to re-light the pilot. Turn off the tank, doing so by turning the valve clockwise. Please call us from another dwelling as soon as possible after doing this.
- Keep the valve closed on a replaceable cylinder when not in use.
- Keep gasoline or flammable liquids away from your propane source. It is not wise to keep them near such a combustible area.
- If your appliance gets wet, please contact us so that we may inspect your appliances.
- Ensure that your appliances are well vented to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Have all appliances checked periodically for maximum safety efforts.
